TOKYO (Feb. 10, 12:15 p.m. ET) -- Kyowa America Corp. is closing its Waynesburg, Pa., plant and consolidating production in Tennessee.
The company notified state officials of the pending closure in a Feb. 7 notice. The injection molding facility will close by the end of July and eliminate 110 jobs -- 85 permanent employees and 25 temporary workers.
Kyowa America, part of Tokyo-based Kyowa Electric and Chemical Co. Ltd., had already cut production of the plant when prime customer Sony Electronics Inc. moved production to Mexico, but had continued making automotive parts in Pennsylvania.
Tennessee is closer to Kyowa’s automotive customers’ production base, the company said.
